Hello, Rob - I'm interested in WestCoasters networking after the conference - summation, insights, contacts, projects. Other than Steve Coast, are any attending? I've also noticed that several attendees are not listed as participants in Boyd - Dave Roberts, Carlos Balarezo, Dan James, and Stuart Baker. Are any of these on the Pacific?

As far as a collapse is concerned, we are beginning to see signs of trouble. In addition to the financial mess, we have Los Zetas are operating within the USA, killing rival cartel members at will. Witness recent hits in Phoenix and Dallas.
Citizens are feeling the danger and stocking up on ammo (Georgia Arms is averaging 700 internet sales per day, double the norm). And the KKK is resurging based on Obama's election.
I believe our country is in grave danger and that is the primary reason I do what I do. we are very focused right now on the intelligence problem as it relates to local law enforcement. The key to preventing a terrorist attack is effective local law enforcement; unfortunately, we are not there yet.
Wish I could attend the conference - perhaps someday I can speak at one of them and we can meet in person.
Thanks, Rob. I had the honor to meet Col Boyd and serve as his escort officer when he presented to our Command and Staff College class back in 1980/81 timeframe. I was a Major in the USMC at the time. I also worked on the manuever warfare doctrine that became part of FM FM 1 that owes a tremendous debt to Col Boyd. A brief excerpt from the article:
"Rian Fried, an owner of Clean Yield Asset Management in nearby Greensboro, which has invested with local agricultural entrepreneurs, said he’s never seen such cooperative effort.
“Across the country a lot of people are doing it individually but it’s rare when you see the kind of collective they are pursuing,” said Mr. Fried, whose firm considers social and environmental issues when investing. “The bottom line is they are providing jobs and making it possible for others to have their own business.”

I really hope to come to PEI! The new company, Capstone Solutions, is keeping me busy beyond belief. It seems like we have a "must attend" seminar or conference every week. We just finished up with a Department of Energy planning conference on wind power in DC.
Very obvious is that Robb, Barnett, Boyd, etc., predict the trends about five years in advance of DC dealing with them. The DoE is only now getting serious about wind power and redundant/resilient power grids.
Ideas about PEI - are there empty buildings that could be repurposed for agriculture? Perhaps an exterior insulation layer of hay bales or corn cobs could be added - Could a building be 'co-op' retrofitted and run by people living in the immediate area? Could the owner of the building -or the city - lease it for $1/year in return for year-round food? The city could allocate a weeks' food for a family of four to the employee of the week/month ...
I'm proposing a series of articles for San Diego magazine on 1) 'buy local' - featuring local businesses, a winery, handmade items, etc. The guy who delivers water for me (no electricity yet for my well) makes a great Syrah and has his own not-yet-operational biodiesel still). Another could be on 2) 'think small' - a business buying an eFuel machine that could then give 5 gallons of ethanol per week to 7 employees - that's quite an incentive to work for a company! (The net cost after tax rebate is US $7/K - a lot but not impossible.
I am VERY happy to have imagined a way to get started. I found a bookmarked 'GlobalGuerillas' some time ago, and the 'hollow state' scenario rings true.
