The Reagan Library is actually in the city of Simi Valley, Ventura County. From LAX, I'd probably just take the train up to Simi Valley, and then a taxi or arrange for pickup. Simi Valley is not too far from Camarillo, but definitely NOT in Ventura!

Actually, I find Ventura very easy to get to: I fly BOS-LAX and catch the puddle jumper to Oxnard, right? I've done that before, to visit Camarillo. (In fact, I would love the opportunity to visit the same folks in Camarillo again.) On United, however, not American.

I have the frequent-flier miles to do just that, but it behooves us FF-milers to make our reservations early. If you confirm that the conference will be in Ventura, starting on the 25th and ending on the 28th, I will commit to going. If it's any interest to the conferees, I will read my paper (3500 words) on "When Sun-tzu met Clausewitz: John Boyd, the OODA Loop, and the invasion of Iraq". Blue skies! -- Dan Ford

Ed, please let me know when you're ready to work on marketing and publicity materials. My experience areas are marketing and advertising writing, print production, audio production and event production.

Because John's theories always involve information as a central concept, a West Coast Conference should be an easy sell. We here in sub-primeland just about invented the information industry. We still maintain our unconventional outlook towards life and the work of living, both of which depend explicitly on information.

In my experience out here (11 years and counting) I find that Boyd is relatively unknown, but his major concepts are in practice. I would just love to do the snowmobile exercise with a bunch of folks whose only experience with snow is of a controlled substance sort.......:-]

My only quibble would be that Ventura County is not the easiest place to get to - particularly if one is from out-of-state. How about something centered around an airport with easy connections to possible attendees. Here are some suggestions:

Monterey, CA - Upside: terrain, things-to-do, atmosphere, connectivity,
also major intellectual hub
San Luis Obispo - Upsides: same as above, but not so many connections.
Portland, OR - Upside:coolest town on the West Coast in terms of appropriateness. And not expensive.
Eugene, OR - same as Portland, but not so connective.
San Francisco - Upside: the most accessible world cosmopolitan town of the US. Downside - very expensive to run a conference from... unless one of us is a member of the Marine Corps Association - their downtown hotel has fine accommodations for a small to mid-size conference.

Anyway, I would likely attend a conference held out here. And I would gladly help in its organization and implementation.

This event looks very interesting. As a student of Boyd's theories I can see clearly where the OODA Loop, decision making and Boyds conceptual spiral of learning and adaptation apply to both conventional and unconventional threats. Law Enforcement is my profession and i sopend a lot of time teaching Boyds OODA Loop to officers on the street. It saves lives.

What i like here is that the community leaders segment because i believe their role as leaders is a key componnent to reducing the friction of decision making. they need to know first how conflcit unfolds and secondly how their seemingly unrelated role has great effect on the decisions being made in a crisis situation.

The sharing of this information will be well worth the time. I have posted an article on my web-site on Critical Decison Making Under Pressure you may find of interest. http://lesc.net/node/79

I will make every effor to make this Boyd Conference

Stay Oriented!
